Hinode Seimen Udon known as a fast food japanese style restaurant serving udon/ramen soup and a variety of tempura. Situated at the new stretch of shop houses along the Automall Karpal Singh Drive and one shop away from Coffee Smith. The interior was coated with a japan street painting on their walls with bamboo sticks and mask hanging down from the ceiling. With the limited space, they were only able to set in small rectangular wooden tables and chairs. To ease the customers as they are operating in a self-service mode, a free flow of tea is place in the central spot of the shop.
Their menu is simple to read. First, you choose the noodle of your choice (Udon / Ramen / Pumpkin Ramen and Green Tea Ramen). Step 2, select the soup base of our choice. If you are adventurous, probably opt for their kelp bonita or the spicy soup. A safer choice would be to have the miso base. One selling point about the Hinode is that, we are given a wide variety of tempura to choose from. Which leads us to Step 3, select the side dishes and sauces of your choice. Lastly, pay at the counter and grab your tea
The Sweet Temptations Shop House (Sweet-i) is operated by a couple from a small corner stall opposite Tesco Extra to a rented place in Sg Dua houses. After some minor complications and moving around, their finally settled down in Lip Sin. Their main followers are the USM students nearby and sweet tooth lovers like me I’m always in a look out for tong shui shops in Penang but it was never a hit until Chatime, BlackBall and Tong Pak Fu came about. Even so, i would opt for this shop over the franchise shops. Ok why? Eventhough I’m a sweet tooth, I still opt for “healthier” dessert. Less sugar and healthier ingredients for instant.
What is unique about this shop is that, they use healthier ingredients to make their desserts. (Wolfberries / Fresh Black Sesame / Pear / Gingko Nuts / Mung Beans / Lotus Seeds / Almond Nuts and etc etc) Using also natural fruits as their sweetener instead of raw sugar. I’m sure some of their desserts have sugar but MOST of them are NOT sweet. That i can assure you. Also, the couple is very helpful when helping us to decide on the type of dessert to meet our craving. They will give us a detailed explanation on each dessert and its benefits.
HotStar Fried Chicken is new addition to the chain of restaurants at Queen Street, North Zone in Queensbay Mall. Similar to Shihlin Taiwanese Snacks, they sell humongous fried chicken breast meat sprinkled with some chilli powder on top, depending on your preference for its spiciness.
They do not offer cutting of the whole chicken breast meat into several pieces, so we ended up chewing the entire piece of chicken from the paper bag given. Reason being, the juiciness of the chicken will no longer be there if we intend to cut the chicken into pieces. They have different level of spiciness. ( Low – Medium – Hot – Extra Hot ).
