Chok Dee Thai located along the hussle and bussle of Burma road, a few shops away Green House Hokkien Mee and the famous Him Heang biscuit shop. Don’t be skeptical on the ordinary exterior and limited parking spots in front of their shop, the rectangular shape restaurant may look small but the place is decorated with beautiful painting and a touch of the Thai decorations. The place sets a very homey and relax feeling for their fellow customers. Chok Dee’s customers can opt to park by the road side on the inner lanes.
Talk talk Wine Bar has been around the neighbourhood expanding from just Tok Tok Cuisine to a wine bar spot taking up 2 storeys tall of the Pekaka Square building in Sungai Dua. With a simple concept where friends and family settling in one corner to talk / chit chat while enjoying the trendy and unique interior ambience without the interference of technology. The initial approach was to have NO WIFI concept but due to numerous request, they gave in to the customers
On the first glance on the interior, it was definitely a mind blowing concept. Reusing the raw materials from iron pipes, old window planks, old sockets, old doors, and the traditional wires with a magic touch of refurbishing. Tadaa! Owned by two bosses, where one of them is the architect of the shop. He would spend his time scribbling ideas on the weekdays at the corner of their shop feeling inspired. For me, it will always have to be great ambience and great food. That’s where we will settle ourselves at. Another thumbs up to the shop for providing lunch/ dinner/ snacks with a variety of choices for drinks from coffee to beer to wine. Not only do they cater for the young adults but they also suit the needs of family with kids and the adults in the 40-50’s. Jazzing up the place on Fridays and Saturdays with live bands performance. The jazz selection of music on the other weekdays too is a very interesting choice.

Sinful weekend ..I purchased five coupon vouchers from Groupon to try out Ding Charcoal BBQ & Steamboat in Straits Quay for the weekend. Each table has 2 hobs, one for the BBQ and the other one for the steamboat. The restaurant uses a smokeless charcoal grill and a two soup pot for each table. It would be recommended to have 4 people per table. They also use the kanban belt as the chain to transport food.
Being the first customer, we were all excited waiting for the food to start coming onto the chain. First, was the sauces. They have 4 different type of sauces (Red Chilli/Red Chilli with garlic/Green Chilli/Red sweet sauce) and 1 fried garlic. Followed by different type of vegetables….
Paragon Mall, which is probably the most happening mall in Penang currently, was newly opened last weekend. We foresaw that most Penangites would be heading there to check out the new mall so we detoured to Gurney Plaza instead.
Along the Gurney alfresco dining area, there were some new restaurants which caught our eye and one of which was Black Canyon Coffee. For those of you unfamiliar with this restaurant, it is a Thai chain restaurant which has branches in various parts of Malaysia. They serve Thai cuisine and a relatively large selection of coffee for you coffee lovers.
They offer a few set meals according to the number of diners you have, as well as other a la carte options. Since there were 4 of us, we ordered Set E (RM49.90) for 4 pax. The price is affordable and portions were just nice.

TAO AUTHENTIC ASIAN CUISINE offers a ALL-U-CAN-EAT buffet. It serves Japanese and Chinese Fusion Food to cater to your taste buds.. This affordable buffet chain serves unlimited sashimi, sushi, salad and fruits corner and etc.
How does this work? So, each table is given a menu and you can just place any order you wish; they serve the dishes a la carte hence the dishes are served warm and fresh unlike other buffet chains. They also offer a list of free flow drinks ( Peach Tea/ Ice Lemon Tea/ Green Tea/ Coffee/ Milo) to choose from. You can then start your meal with a light salad and some appetizers from the salad bar at the side. The waiter who took your orders will come back with a list of printed papers on what you order.
Noted: Portions are small and service may not be as fast during peak hours. So order a lot ahead.
