Finding good food to eat around Gurney is increasingly difficult, especially so when we have spent the past two weeks loitering around the area hunting for new places for lunches and dinner. On top of that, having to eat something decent on a tight student budget with a place that has plenty parking space and air conditioning under this crazy weather just makes things that much more difficult.
We are mall rats for all the above reasons, and we aren’t proud of it. However, we have slowly run out of affordable places (that we aren’t sick of) to eat in Gurney Plaza/Paragon, until we found our life savior right in this restaurant. Relish is recently opened in Paragon just right above Starbucks, sandwiched between Lunarich and Savaro. Their specialties are centered on Malaysian dishes, so expect lots of santan in some creamy curry goodness.
Sadly, we visited on a weekend and missed all the awesome weekday lunch deals that they offer. Do read on and rest assured that you’ll be paying for just a fraction of the price we mentioned below if you happen to visit on weekdays! Don’t say we NO JIO!
We all love the taste of Char Koay Teow hot from the flaming wok or eating Chendol by the street amidst hordes of tourists. What we may NOT miss would be the hot, sweltering heat and the frustration of trying to get a parking space!
If you want a breath of fresh air, come visit Sarkies Corner where you can find all these favourite local specialties in one place. Basked in the ambience of the colonial décor, I would personally opt for a seat by the beautiful garden porch. Overlooking the sea, you can enjoy the sea breeze while sampling the local specialties. You can even walk off the calories along the garden post lunch overlooking the Penang Bridge.
A space previously occupied by the international buffet, Sarkies Corner now offers an expansive ala carte menu specially featuring an array of Western and Eastern delights. Be it small bites of Samosa or a warm bowl of Sup Ekor to a crispy skin Norwegian Salmon Steak, you will surely find a dish that can satisfy your every whim and fancy from Sarkies Corner.

Idealite Restaurant was established in year 2011 by Mr Tan Yong Jen and his another 5 associates whom are recognized as a registered Homeopath Therapist and Nutritionist. Focusing on eating healthy and right became their main focus in the business. They started their business at a corner of their house in Penang Island and slowly expanded to their very first IDEALITE restaurant at Jalan Gottlieb.
Today, they made it more convinient for us by opening in the shopping malls! Their branches are located inside Queensbay Mall on the North Zone and the other one is inside Gurney Plaza beside Kim Gary restaurant.
It was definitely an eye opening experience for first timers like us! Non-vege lovers. Every dish serve was not only unique but it taste just as good as the ones we usually consume in the local restaurants. The dedication and tentativeness of the owner to capture the hearts of many definitely deserve a *like*. The effort of transforming limited ingredients to a similar taste is definitely a huge challenge.
