Hinode Seimen Udon 日の出製麺うどん @ Automall, Karpal Singh Drive, Penang

Hinode Seimen Udon known as a fast food japanese style restaurant serving udon/ramen soup and a variety of tempura. Situated at the new stretch of shop houses along the Automall Karpal Singh Drive and one shop away from Coffee Smith. The interior was coated with a japan street painting on their walls with bamboo sticks and mask hanging down from the ceiling. With the limited space, they were only able to set in small rectangular wooden tables and chairs. To ease the customers as they are operating in a self-service mode, a free flow of tea is place in the central spot of the shop.

Their menu is simple to read. First, you choose the noodle of your choice (Udon / Ramen / Pumpkin Ramen and Green Tea Ramen). Step 2, select the soup base of our choice. If you are adventurous, probably opt for their kelp bonita or the spicy soup. A safer choice would be to have the miso base. One selling point about the Hinode is that, we are given a wide variety of tempura to choose from. Which leads us to Step 3, select the side dishes and sauces of your choice. Lastly, pay at the counter and grab your tea :)

My Voice Cafe & Studio @ Krystal Point, Bayan Lepas, Penang

My Voice Cafe & Studio is located at Krystal Point (previously Elmondo), this being their 2nd branch in Bayan Lepas. Their first branch is located at Bay Avenue (beside Queensbay Mall and Eastin Hotel). Following their expansion, their third branch is opening soon at THE CEO building (opposite Kayu Restaurant) where it will be PORK FREE to cater for my HALAL folks. ;)

The interior of the cafe follows a very clean, white and minimalist layout. There was a grand piano in the store, but we did not have the opportunity to hear any performances. Overall, we were satisfied with the fast service in taking orders and serving of food.

The main highlight of the cafe is their BIG BOWL RAMEN (RM 35 for 2 person, RM49 for 3 person, RM62 for 4 person and RM72 for 5 person)

Sushi Zento @ Precinct 10, Tanjung Tokong, Penang

We were already running late, missed our lunch, hence we were thankful we found this place SUSHI ZENTO. It was also near their closing hours when we arrive at 245pm, but we were greeted with the warm smile from the employees in the restaurant. Assisting us to our seats and making sure that we have ample of time to decide on our late lunch before coming over to take our orders. However, the Kaiten belt has already stop operating when we reach.

Located in Precinct 10, Tanjung Tokong, Sushi Zento shares the same company with Azuma, Queensbay Mall and Edo Ichi, Island Plaza serving Japanese food. I like how each restaurants has their own unique BEST SELLING DISHES. Sushi Zento, serves pork (NON HALAL RESTAURANT) but the rest don’t. The restaurant has two main areas, the outdoor faces the happening Precinct 10 party while the indoor has the view of the chef on the counter slicing your tasty sashimi and the selection of sushis from the Kaiten belt.

Edo Ramen @ Gurney Paragon Mall, Georgetown, Penang

Goku Raku in Gurney Paragon is now rebranded to Edo Ramen. Opened on 7th April 2014 with their new menu giving a new fresh approach to ramen indulgence at a greater value ranging from RM9.90 for a bowl of ramen. Edo ramen introduces us to Tokyo-style ramen, a unique recipe created by notable ramen connoissseur, Mr Tetsuya Fukino where ramen enthusiasts can choose from four types of ramen soup (TOKYO, TONKOTSU, MISO AND BLACK) and 2 categories of topping together with their authentic handmade ramen. The term Edo was the former name of Tokyo in the Japanese Samurai Era. With their simplified menu, it allows the consumer to make their selection more conveniently and easily.

First choose the soup of your choice, the ultimate option gives you four extra toppings ( Seaweed, braised pork belly, japanese fish cake and the lava egg) vs the standard option. You can customize it your way with the add on option below the menu.

Pinetree Cafe @ Jalan Sungai Dua, Gelugor, Penang

Last week, we received an invitation from Tour Directions to revisit Pinetree Cafe @ Jalan Sungai Dua. Hosted by Mr Cheng partnering with another two bosses, we were introduced to their new menu and their top 9 dishes MUST TRY recommended to their customers. With their new concept, new revise prices at a more affordable range to cater for the students in USM and young working adults yet maintaining the quality of the food. Definitely a thumbs up!

To create the ambience, Pinetree also got Mr Rois to serenade us with his beautiful voice while strumming his guitar in the main hall. We are certainly most captivated by his oldies and modern pop songs.
