Macallum Connoisseurs @ Lebuh Macallum, Georgetown, Penang

Heavy instagram users beware! The following shows some food pictures which are overly posted on instagram. For those who have yet to follow us on Instagram or any other penangite, this is a treat for your eyes.

Macallum Connoisseurs is one of the newest brunch/coffee place for all you early-risers, unless you plan to have it for lunch, in that case we don’t judge because we absolutely love brunches! As the name suggests, its located at Gat Lebuh Macallum, just along the Jelutong Expressway. Many would probably have notice this black building with solar panels newly built beside the temple. It’s strategically located in the heart of Penang a few hundred metres away from Komtar, Penang.

Limited tummies equates to short post and few food pictures but hey quality>quantity right? Good bagels are hard to come by in this small island we call home so we took a turkey bacon bagel, slice of cake and COFFEE OF COURSE.

Coffee Affairs @ Lebuh Bishop, Georgetown, Penang

It’s ONE MORE MONTH to CHRISTMAS! Jingle Bells Jingle Bell! As the school bell rings, it marks the beginning of SCHOOL HOLIDAYS! The shopping malls and restaurants are busier than usual. People from near and far flooding Penang just to savour the good hawker foods and visit the heritage cafes. We stumbled on another new spot (not so new to Penangites) to check out. Coffee Affairs served freshly roast specialty coffee beans from different countries and delicious assorted pastries. The cafe offers brewing classes and purchase of brewing equipment.

Espresso Lab @ Queensbay Mall, Bayan Lepas, Penang

One fine day, while sauntering in Queensbay Mall, Penang, we noticed the opening of Espresso Lab, a 3-month old addition to our usual haunt.  Although we have seen them burgeoning in Kuala Lumpur, this is the first outlet in Penang and we coffee lovers got tad too excited than we should be and thus decided to give it a try seeing the warm reception from fellow Penangites.

The cafe was situated in an open space on the first floor of the mall and since it is easily accessible, this is definitely a plus point for those seeking respite after a long day of shopping and in dire need of some delicious liquid caffeine. Service is prompt as we would collect our own coffee after payment, so those looking for a quick wake-me-up will also benefit from some speedy coffee on the go. The layout of the cafe is clean and minimalistic, enhancing our opinion about its no-frills, serious attitude towards coffee. We would say that the coffee definitely deserves mention, though that the cakes are so-so. Nonetheless, this could be a good tea place for those seeking to perk up with a dose of good coffee.

After looking through the no-frills coffee menu (these guys sure are serious about their coffee) and food counter comprising cakes and pies, the sweet tooth among us settled on a cappuccino and a few slices of cake.

The Sweet Temptations Shop House (Sweet-i) @ Jalan Nipah, Bayan Lepas, Penang

The Sweet Temptations Shop House (Sweet-i) is operated by a couple from a small corner stall opposite Tesco Extra to a rented place in Sg Dua houses. After some minor complications and moving around, their finally settled down in Lip Sin. Their main followers are the USM students nearby and sweet tooth lovers like me :) I’m always in a look out for  tong shui shops in Penang but it was never a hit until Chatime, BlackBall and Tong Pak Fu came about. Even so, i would opt for this shop over the franchise shops. Ok why? Eventhough I’m a sweet tooth, I still opt for “healthier” dessert. Less sugar and healthier ingredients for instant.

What is unique about this shop is that, they use healthier ingredients to make their desserts. (Wolfberries / Fresh Black Sesame / Pear / Gingko Nuts / Mung Beans / Lotus Seeds / Almond Nuts and etc etc) Using also natural fruits as their sweetener instead of raw sugar. I’m sure some of their desserts have sugar but MOST of them are NOT sweet. That i can assure you. Also, the couple is very helpful when helping us to decide on the type of dessert to meet our craving. They will give us a detailed explanation on each dessert and its benefits.

Brew Thirty Two Coffee House @ Jalan Green Hall, Georgetown, Penang

Mille crepe has been the talk of the town in Penang heritage cafes lately. Every new cafe is heavily promoting the laid back mood / fun / relax / chillax mood in town after their heritage walk or a relaxing tea area for reunions. From Mugshot Cafe to Moustache House to Twelve Cups and now, Brew Thirty Two Coffee House. What first caught my attention was the mural at the bottom. “Unique” would be the word i use to describe the mural. It can be some what disturbing and disgusting to some but trust me, you will be so tempted to imitate the figure or post with he-she. :D Browse down to see on your own….

Brew Thirty Two Coffee House, the new hit in town since June’13. They have proper tables prepared for college students (next door) to study / take a break from their long hours of study. They have a more comfy area with sofas for those chillax folks. They even have an ample of space for people to walk around and mingle upstairs. Their concept is simple/ neat and tidy. The place is not too crowded eventhough it is the peak hours when we visited.

Located at Jalan Green Hall. Nearby the Fort Cornwallies/ Dewan Sri Pinang / situated right after Convent Light Street school / Opposite Segi College. It is nearby to the Port Swettenham as well, so for those docking by in Penang for a short 3-4 hours, you can always consider to swing by this cafe to check out/ kill time and relax before boarding.

On their menu is their mille crepe cakes, a crepe is a type of thin pancake usually made from wheat flour/ buckwheat flour origin from French, deriving from the latin crispa meaning curled. Often crepes are served with a variety of fillings, as simple as caramelized sugar. Mille crepe is in a form of many crepe layers. The word mille means a thousand, implying many layers transforming it to a cake.
