Despite its official opening quite some time back, Gurney Paragon is still relatively empty and is still filling up with new and exciting stores to offer you a myriad of food, shopping and entertainment. From time to time, we will travel the distance just to explore new eateries in the mall, one of its newest addition being Bear Paw.
With a total of 11 outlets in Klang Valley and Johor Bahru, Bear Paw is not an unfamiliar sight for those of you who frequent there. Recently launched its very first outlet in Penang, Bear Paw is a Taiwanese food chain set to redefine chinese paus, or rather ‘burgers’. It is located at the basement of Gurney Paragon, rather close by Sam’s Grocer, right next to Ban Heang.
Remember how the burger bakars from your neighbourhood stall are messy and calorie-laden? Bear Paw is more diet-friendly with its signature bear-paw shaped buns which are steamed instead of grilled with slabs of planta on it.
We love how you get to pick your own buns out of 4 very different choices: Milk, Brown Sugar, Whole Wheat Pumpkin. Each bun comes with a different colour and flavour profile. We were thinking of some Nicki Minaj buns and settled for Signature Bear Set with Brown Sugar buns. You can choose your own sauces from 5 different types too! (Honey Mustard, Teriyaki, Chilli, Thousand Island and Tartar)
Chok Dee Thai located along the hussle and bussle of Burma road, a few shops away Green House Hokkien Mee and the famous Him Heang biscuit shop. Don’t be skeptical on the ordinary exterior and limited parking spots in front of their shop, the rectangular shape restaurant may look small but the place is decorated with beautiful painting and a touch of the Thai decorations. The place sets a very homey and relax feeling for their fellow customers. Chok Dee’s customers can opt to park by the road side on the inner lanes.
Get’em Smack Cafe located at one of the shops in Penang Times Square. In their small and cozy interior serving a variety of mouth watering western cuisine ranging from crispy roasted chicken to mildly spiced shrimp aglio olio. The cafe also serves UK-imported Twinings tea and freshly-made desserts such as mango crepe, chocolate brownies and ice-cream. Get’s em Smack does not serve pork or alcohol on its menu.
Don’t miss out the deal in Groupon where you can have a set meal for 1 pax at RM15 (instead of RM22.40) or set meal for 2 pax at RM28 (instead of RM44.90 only RM14 per person)
each person gets
10% service charges (RM2 value)
HotStar Fried Chicken is new addition to the chain of restaurants at Queen Street, North Zone in Queensbay Mall. Similar to Shihlin Taiwanese Snacks, they sell humongous fried chicken breast meat sprinkled with some chilli powder on top, depending on your preference for its spiciness.
They do not offer cutting of the whole chicken breast meat into several pieces, so we ended up chewing the entire piece of chicken from the paper bag given. Reason being, the juiciness of the chicken will no longer be there if we intend to cut the chicken into pieces. They have different level of spiciness. ( Low – Medium – Hot – Extra Hot ).
Weekend is here again so that spells Food Hunting!
We decided to skip breakfast and gorge ourselves on the famous Marshall’s Burger. This non-halal joint is located beside Giant, opposite BMW on Burma Road and just along the main road. So, try not to miss the signboard
Just a random thought, it seems as if burgers are a hit in Penang lately, judging from the amount of burger joints sprouting up.
Pinetree Cafe newly open in Jalan Sungai Dua. Serving western and HALAL food catering for USM students. Both of us are friends with owner. Uncle have been in the eatery business for a very long time. Both he and his wife have the passion of cooking and exploring new businesses. They cater HALAL food for our fellow colleagues in the office cafeteria.
Hot in their menu is Ramen Burger set served with fries.
