The Daily Dose Cafe is part of my short listed must visit cafe since the past few months. But with the endless pile of work coming my way, it has definitely delay my trip to this cafe. We decided to have brunch in the cafe for a change instead. The cafe is situated along the narrow Steward Lane, walking distance to the Cafe Atelier and the Goddess of MercyTemple. The ambience of the cafe is lovely with a fish pond located in the middle of walkway. Decorated with pictures of wars and fights. Be warn! It could be rather disturbing after observing the picture further. Back to their menu, there were limited choices for main dishes.
Chow Thye Road has been busier than usual this year. One of the restaurant that caught my eye as we drove pass was the tastefully designed restaurant Basement 6. A restaurant that serves breakfast (8am – 11am only), lunch starts (12 noon till last call at 3pm) and dinner (6pm to 10pm).
We were sceptical initially, suspecting it to be one of those “nice to see only” cafes mushrooming in Penang. The patio area was designed to give the visitors a garden in the city ambience. We loved the little pots of plants accenting each table. For those who are already imagining the sweltering heat of the outdoors, fear not as the ceiling walls are raised high and abundant fans air the space. Diners can choose the indoor restaurant for the air-conditioned spot. We took the outdoor spot for the breezy wind and natural daylight while munching our breakfast. We had a heartily breakfast and diners can opt for their affordable lunch set / menu if one opt to laze on their bed on the weekends
One fine day, while sauntering in Queensbay Mall, Penang, we noticed the opening of Espresso Lab, a 3-month old addition to our usual haunt. Although we have seen them burgeoning in Kuala Lumpur, this is the first outlet in Penang and we coffee lovers got tad too excited than we should be and thus decided to give it a try seeing the warm reception from fellow Penangites.
The cafe was situated in an open space on the first floor of the mall and since it is easily accessible, this is definitely a plus point for those seeking respite after a long day of shopping and in dire need of some delicious liquid caffeine. Service is prompt as we would collect our own coffee after payment, so those looking for a quick wake-me-up will also benefit from some speedy coffee on the go. The layout of the cafe is clean and minimalistic, enhancing our opinion about its no-frills, serious attitude towards coffee. We would say that the coffee definitely deserves mention, though that the cakes are so-so. Nonetheless, this could be a good tea place for those seeking to perk up with a dose of good coffee.
After looking through the no-frills coffee menu (these guys sure are serious about their coffee) and food counter comprising cakes and pies, the sweet tooth among us settled on a cappuccino and a few slices of cake.
Another place to enjoy a good cup of freshly brewed coffee is Coffee Elements. Located on the first floor of All Season Place, Air Itam. With the newly opened mall, locals living in Air Itam, Farlim and Paya Terubong have more option for catching up sessions, meals and light grocery shopping all in one place. Their interior walls are filled with unique mural paintings and interesting graffiti designs surrounding the place. The vibrant colours of the tables and chairs made the place more lively and cozy.
You can also enjoy the delicious foodies at Coffee Elements in Gurney Paragon but it is less spacious compared to the one in All Season Place. Remember to place the orders at the counter before the food is served to the table
