Tree Bar @ G Hotel, Georgetown, Penang

Penang’s night scene is saturated with night clubs and pubs which largely includes binge drinking and vomiting your guts out the day after, at least for teens and young adults these days. We do not endorse such lifestyle and much prefer to just lounge somewhere without feeling the vibrations of loud music on our skin. Tree Bar is one of G Hotel’s baby which was launched not too long ago. It is in close proximity to the backdoor of G hotel, right next to Chilli’s.

Tree Bar is named so because the bar is designed to encircle this big rain tree with the species name “Albizia Saman”. It was intentionally built around it because good environmentalists from G hotel decided that it is a pity to cut off this beautiful 80 year old tree. We sure glad that they kept they tree because it adds so much character and uniqueness to the place. It looks absolutely chill and serene with its dimmed lights and hanging decor at night, simply gorgeous!

We love Tree Bar for many reasons. Apart from its tasteful lounge music, the food was what stood out for us. Most food from bars and pubs leave a bad if not horrible impression I believe, and Tree Bar completely elevates the idea of bar food to something that is not just edible, but sophisticated and good. They offer a myriad of bites and fillers which are priced from RM16++ onwards, which we thought was very reasonable for the quality of food they serve.

Junk Cafe @ Lebuh Chulia, Georgetown, Penang

Only a fortnight old, Junk Cafe which is located at the heart of Chulia Street is now open for dining. The interior is decorated with antique clocks, manual film cameras, rusty looking musical instruments and wooden old school table and benches. Besides the rusty and old school settings, there were also a collections of the classic gramphone discs displayed on a piano. Behind the wooden door, Junk Cafe continue to surprise us with interesting pieces of “funky” antique and a corner selling the limited edition clothings, shoes and accessories. While on the outside is where the master chef is at work, making the tender and juicy burgers.

Stay tuned for their new menu, as Junk continue to surprise us with their chicken sandwich / crab rolls and etc. Catch their latest update in their FB page ( Junk Cafe)

Javrie Restaurante & Pizzeria @ Gurney Paragon Mall, Georgetown, Penang

If you are wondering where to go for a hearty meal tonight for Christmas Eve, you may want to check out Javrie Restaurant & Pizzeria located at Gurney Paragon Mall. The restaurant is well decorated in the 70’s theme, utilizing the vintage poster-montage wall as a background for the momento photographs filled with¬†scrumptious homemade pizzas, mouthwatering mushroom soup and unique ramen burgers. There is also an added touch of smooth wooden wall with glass panes to separate diners and passer-by shoppers, creating the perfect ambiance away from the hectic shopping scene just outside.

Hot deals from their menu includes their variety pizza options such as flaming tropical seafood, BBQ meat fiesta and tomyam chicken delight. AND the list goes on…

We chanced upon a Groupon deal of cash voucher RM 50 for just RM 25 and decided to give this new place a try.

Marshall’s Burger @ Burma Road, Georgetown, Penang

Weekend is here again so that spells Food Hunting! :P

We decided to skip breakfast and gorge ourselves on the famous Marshall’s Burger. This non-halal joint is located beside Giant, opposite BMW on Burma Road and just along the main road. So, try not to miss the signboard :)

Just a random thought, it seems as if burgers are a hit in Penang lately, judging from the amount of burger joints sprouting up.
