Heavy instagram users beware! The following shows some food pictures which are overly posted on instagram. For those who have yet to follow us on Instagram or any other penangite, this is a treat for your eyes.
Macallum Connoisseurs is one of the newest brunch/coffee place for all you early-risers, unless you plan to have it for lunch, in that case we don’t judge because we absolutely love brunches! As the name suggests, its located at Gat Lebuh Macallum, just along the Jelutong Expressway. Many would probably have notice this black building with solar panels newly built beside the temple. It’s strategically located in the heart of Penang a few hundred metres away from Komtar, Penang.
Limited tummies equates to short post and few food pictures but hey quality>quantity right? Good bagels are hard to come by in this small island we call home so we took a turkey bacon bagel, slice of cake and COFFEE OF COURSE.
Turkey Bacon Bagel (RM15.00)
Bagels are crispy on the outside with the right amount of chewiness a bagel ought to have, almost similar to the bagels from Mugshot in our humble opinion. It came with a slice of hot toasty turkey bacon in between, lacking a bit of cream cheese which we thought is a must when eating bagels. A side salad consisting of purple cabbage, rocket leaves and cherry tomatoes was also served with a light balsamic dressing to go with it. The meal was light and simple which we thought will be perfect for a relaxing weekend morning.
Chunky Peanut Butter Choc Cake (RM13.00)
Can’t decide between your nutella jar or your peanut butter jar? Why pick when you can have the best of both worlds?
We enjoyed every bite and savored every mouthful of this cake. The baker clearly wasn’t kiamsiap with her materials as we could taste the richness of the cocoa and the nutty buttery paste in the right balance. The cake was moist and it wasn’t cloyingly sweet either. We’re definitely adding this to our list of must-orders next time we’re back here.
Cappuccino con Cocoa (RM10.00)
As sophisticated as it sounds, its cappuccino with some cocoa dusting on top. Ingenious? Not so much. Drinkable? Definitely. We didn’t think the coffee was extremely fragrant but we don’t have any serious complaints either. Go for it if you are craving for your daily dose of caffeine.
We loved how the place was extremely spacious and simple in its design. Plenty of space for everybody unlike small squeezy old buildings in town. Through their quality food, Macallum has proved that they are not just any cafe joining in the cafe fad, but a contender that will go a long way. Our only complaint? The room temperature was too warm for our comfort and we were feeding some mozzies at some point of time.
