Chok Dee Thai located along the hussle and bussle of Burma road, a few shops away Green House Hokkien Mee and the famous Him Heang biscuit shop. Don’t be skeptical on the ordinary exterior and limited parking spots in front of their shop, the rectangular shape restaurant may look small but the place is decorated with beautiful painting and a touch of the Thai decorations. The place sets a very homey and relax feeling for their fellow customers. Chok Dee’s customers can opt to park by the road side on the inner lanes.
Secawan ‘n’ such On Hutton is within walking distance from New World Park and just a few shops away from the famous House of Udang Galah situated along Hutton Lane. It primarily serves breakfast foods like pancakes, french toast and eggs benedict, not forgetting several pasta dishes which is almost a must for most cafe spots nowadays. Also, its refrigerated glass display by the cashier keeps all its cakes and desserts chilled and ready to be served in this hot Penang weather. We truly enjoyed the comfortable and cozy cafe setting in Secawan, not forgetting its thoughtful interior that leaves just enough space between tables for private conversations.
A place for your chocolate fix. Located at Gurney Paragon, level 6 overlooking the seafront of gurney. It is easily missed since it is not exactly located inside the mall, but you will be able to recognize restaurant from its tall glass windows which serves as the perfect medium of natural light for good photography.
Our first time there was in the evening and there weren’t many customers then. We visited Chocolate Passion again on a weekend and the place was quite packed this time round. We thought that this place is perfect to hang out with your friends on a chill afternoon/evening, that is if you don’t mind the noise level which can be on a high side at times, depending on your luck.
Once you enter the glass doors, you will be greeted by plates and plates of chocolate truffles and pralines. All you need to do is find a spot or empty table, place your orders at the counter and eagerly wait for your food to arrive.
Located in Gurney Paragon Mall, the one-stop snack shop offers customers with frozen yogurt, non-fried crackers, snacks, and drinks to replenish their empty tummies. Here, hungry nibblers can get their hands on naturally-flavoured prawn crackers that are popped, not deep fried, for guilt-free snacking. Today’s Groupon advocates healthy deceit with a cone or cup of frozen yogurt at Pick n Pay in Gurney Paragon Mall (Level 8), Penang. Choose from:
Recently we visited Huo Tan Wang located at the newly refurbished Chime Heritage behind Penang Plaza. Huo Tan Wang is well known for their charcoal fish head steamboat. The restaurant uses charcoal for their steamboat to enhance the slurp worthy rich and sweet taste of the fish soup based. On top of the ingredients inside the steamboat, we also ordered their chewy Hock Chew and Sai To fishballs / enoki / pork slices and some green veges. They were very generous in refilling the strong flavoured soup. *thumbs up*
The beautiful seafood mural paintings on the wall and the traditional steamboat pots sets the entire ambience. The murals of the sea animals like the gigantic prawn and their catch of the day made our stomach hungrier.
The air-conditioned is not fully blast and the lacking of ventilation causing the 2nd floor to be slightly smoking when dining. Definitely one would prefer to wear a casual outfit when visiting. However the prices maybe a little higher compared to other restaurants but nevertheless the quality of the steamboat (ingredients/soup) is above par. Overall, we are happy with the great service, and friendly owners.
