When one thinks of the holy month of Ramadhan, the word fasting comes to mind. I, for one think of the Buka Puasa buffet spreads and stalls, mushrooming for just this one month to satisfy our deprived taste buds. Sarkies Annexe (New Wing)  in Eastern & Oriental Hotel Penang is not missing out the party. In conjunction with the month of Ramadhan, Sarkies Annexe is offering an extended buffet spread, featuring our  flavorful Malay and local cuisine, on top of their already delectable international dishes.

The long stretch of appetizer for us to savor, delicacies like cucur udang dipped with peanut sauce, fresh fruits with rojak sauce, salted duck eggs and different kerabu choices from kerabu kacang botol, kerabu perut, kerabut taugeh to kerabu jantung pisang. Their spicy sambal belacan, budu, tempoyak, air asam and cencaluk sauce as dressing to go with the appetizers.

For soup, one can sample their bubur lombok (chicken or beef or seafood porridge) and the sup ekor dipped with bread roll and butter.These specialities are some of the favourites cooked and shared together by the locals for buka puasa during the Ramadhan month.

The aroma of the roasted lamb and tandoori chickens, filled the outside of the buffet area. I can’t help but draw myself towards the smell the moment we get out from the car :) In the line also is their beef and chicken satay dipped with peanut sauce, the teh tarik counter and their local noodles corner

We will also be able to see the chef live in action grilling the minute steak, lamb chop, grilled salmon steaks, prawns, scallops, japanese saba and long fish. chicken, lamb and beef sausages

Another section that we won’t want to miss out is their drink and dessert corners, serving the famous dates and the colourful malay delicacies.One particular dessert that caught my eye was the mango glutinous rice served with coconut cream, only found during this festive period.
