The Mugshot Cafe @ Chulia Street, Georgetown, Penang

The long-awaited weekend finally arrived!!! We decided to go for food hunting since my sisters will be back for the holiday! :) Yay! This also means more yummy for our tummy.

Mugshot cafe is in their to-go-list so here we are! Their speciality is Sesame Bagel; it comes with several variations: Cream Cheese, Cream Cheese and Smoked Salmon, Bacon and Egg, Turkey Ham with Cranberry Sauce, Cornbeef and Rocket. Take your pick!

To go with our meal, we ordered hot chocolate and brewed americano. :)

Hot Chocolate (RM10.00) / Brewed Coffee (RM6.00)

I usually refrain from ordering hot chocolate in cafes because they tend to be too sweet for my liking. However, this turned out to be well-balanced as sweetness and the bitterness from the cocoa complements each other. The coffee taste was too mild in my opinion as I usually go for stronger brews.

Gula Melaka with Jackfruit (RM10.00)

Apart from bagels, they also include yogurt with toppings you don’t find off the shelf in their menu.  Our yogurt was topped with Gula Melaka and Jackfruit.

The sweet Gula Melaka complements the tartness of the yogurt very well, and the jackfruit slices give more texture to the little pot of creamy goodie!

Bacon and Egg Bagel (RM10.00)

A slice of bacon was wrapped around a sunny side up, with mayo drizzled on top. The bun was toasted well; it brings out the strong sesame taste. This is a must-try dish for those who visit the cafe.

Cream Cheese and Smoked Salmon (RM10.00)

The cream cheese was spread with a slice of smoked salmon on top. The cream cheese tasted like any ordinary cream cheese spread you can find off the dairy section in supermarkets. Perhaps they can improve on their selection of cream cheese and types of bagels as I’ve tasted varieties like herb & chives, pesto & sun-dried tomatoes slathered on different type of bagels like multigrain, tomato, even cinnamon and raisin!

Overall, I preferred the bagel without the salmon  as I am not a big fan of smoked salmon. However, my sister liked it so it is entirely up to you to decide which is better.

Turkey Ham with Cranberry Sauce (RM10.00)

The turkey ham is served cold with rocket and cranberry sauce. The sauce is rather watery in consistency with more cranberry bits than the usual cranberry jam spread.

Overall, we personally love the sesame bagel bun. Love love love!

The seats were extremely limited as it was located at a touristy location (CHULIA STREET). Self service is expected and it is usually crowded with people not wanting to miss out this bagel joint so be prepared to wait for some time before you can be served.
